Base sheet mechanically fastened to the deck. Cap sheet fully torched over the top with an eight-inch overlap on every seam. Every seam gets a second torch pass to fuse the bitumen. Parapets and stack flashings wrapped and heat-welded so nothing's just tar-and-hope.
SBS handles freeze-thaw the way asphalt built-up systems never did. The modified rubber stays flexible in cold weather, so the membrane moves with the deck instead of cracking. That's what buys the 20-year warranty span.

Usually, yes. Ponding on a flat addition is almost always a slope-and-drainage problem, not just a membrane problem. When we re-roof it in two-ply SBS we reset the slope toward the drains or scuppers and size them to clear the water, so the new membrane isn't sitting under a puddle. We'll tell you at the site walk whether it's a straight re-roof or whether the substrate needs re-sloping first.
Yes — a flat addition or carport is a standalone scope. We tie the new torch-on into the existing roof-to-wall and roof-to-pitch transitions so the junction is watertight, and leave the shingle roof untouched if it has life left. If both are due, we'll price them together so the transition detail is done once, properly.
