Standing-seam metal is a 50-year roof if the details are right. Panels hemmed, not bent. Clips spaced for the pitch. Substrate breathing. Snap-lock or mechanically-seamed depending on the roof, every fastener concealed. Nothing backs out in year eight the way it does on exposed-screw panels.
The detail
Panels are cut long so there are no lap joints in the field. Every clip is spaced to the pitch and the wind zone. Ridge, hip, and valley get custom flashings bent on site so the profile matches. Snap-lock or mechanically-seamed depending on the pitch.
Concealed fasteners don't back out over time. Hemmed panel edges lock into the flashing so wind can't lift them. The finish is Kynar 500 on every panel we run, which is what carries the 40-year colour warranty.
Cheap crews face-fasten the panels because it's faster. Every screw is a leak in year eight. They also skip the substrate detail. Metal needs a ventilated cavity or an ice-and-water membrane rated for high-temp, or you'll get condensation running down the underside.

50 years plus if the install is right and the homeowner leaves it alone. The finish is warranted 40 years. The panel itself is a much longer game than that. We've walked jobs from the mid-70s that still shed water perfectly, and the only reason we'd replace them is the colour palette went out of style.
Not on a properly built residential roof. The underlayment and the attic assembly dampen the sound. You'll hear it more than shingles, but it's closer to a light shower on a skylight than the drum roll people expect. Our lead installer's own house has metal.
Down to 2:12 pitch with the right panel and seam. Below 2:12 we'd spec a mechanically-seamed panel or move you to a torch-on flat system. Standing-seam wants some pitch to shed. On a nearly-flat plane we'd pick the better system.
Yes, and it's the best surface for it. Solar mounts clamp directly to the seam without penetrating the panel. That means no future leaks from the array. Solar installers love metal roofs for exactly this reason.
Charcoal, matte black, forest green, gunmetal, and weathered zinc are the runs we stock. Kynar 500 finish on every one. If you want a special order we'll match it. We'll bring physical panel samples to the site walk.
